Drugs in Taiwan are not as widely used or as widely available as they are in some other western countries. While Glowfish does not advocate drug use, we do want to give you a little information about the laws and availability.
The Law:
In the US if you get busted with a litte pot not much will happen to you, not so in Taiwan. Taiwan's laws and the police do not go easy on drug users. Urine tests can be given at random and those testing positive can held for up to 30 days without a trial or charges against them. Once charged you will be lucky if you only get deported. If you get caught using illegal drugs you are screwed.
Cold Medicine etc:

If you're like me then you can't live without your over the counter medication. Excedrine, NyQuil, Cold pills and the ever popular Pepto Bismal.Unfortunately you can't get any of these things here in Taiwan. Even the drugs you get at the hospital aren't comparable. Either bring these things with you or write a letter back home before you find yourself with snot dripping out the nose, and a pile of used tissues.

Marijuana:
If you understand the risks and still want to toke up, you shouldn't have too hard a time finding something to smoke. While fresh green is rare and costly, you should be able to find some hash if you look hard enough.
Ecstasy:

Taiwan and other Asian countries have had a large amount of pills moving through the market. This is good and bad. Good because you can now find ecstacy if you ask around and bad becasue the cops are busting down on it hard. Just keep your drug usage low key.
Blow etc:

Hopefully you were planning on quitting the white devil, because you won't be finding your fix here. Same for heroin, meth, morphine, LSD and all those other great mind altering substances.
Sweet Sweet Beetle Nut:

Taiwan is one of the last places where you can find the beetle nut. It's a speedy treat which most people chew like tobacco. Before chewing the beetle nut bite off the top and spit it out.You can buy beetle nuts from any number of small roadside vendors. Chewing it too much will make your mouth look like a bloody, rotting nest of dead insects. Personally I like to make them into a tea to drink, or a resin to smoke.
