One of the first things you will need if you want to live and work in Taipei is your health check. This is a peice of paper saying that you don't have tuberculosis, certain STD's and that you do not use morphine.

Supplies: to get your health check certificate you will need a passport, some cash, two passport photos, and an application form.


     
Step 1 : pick a hospital

       I find the easiest hospital to go to is the one on Renai rd.(Renai E rd. Sec. 4, no. 10). For the complete list of hospitals you can go to the Tealit hospitals section. This guide is specifically for the Renai Branch but the general procedure is the same for all hospitals. If in doubt ask at the information desk.

Step 2: get your photos

      Somewhere near the health check office will be a photo machine for taking passport pictures. Pop inside and get some passport pictures beforeheading to the office to fill out your application.




Step 3: fill out exam form

       There will be a desk set up with exam forms. Grab two forms, fill in your name, passport number, etc. and paste the pictures on the front. If you don't know something just leave it blank and the people at the desk can help you out.



Step 4: pay for the exam

       Before the medical test you need to pay for the tests. Head to the payment desk which should be located next to or across from the form desk. When I took the exam it cost 630nt, but some hospitals charge up to 1200nt. Many schools will reimburse you for this cost.



Step 5: get your tests done

       After paying for your tests you'll need to get the various tests done. At Renai you can do them all in the same room, just follow the numbers. At other hospitals you will be directed to other areas of the hospital. At each stop the attendant will stamp a piece of paper and send you to the next area. After the final test you'll get a receipt which you'll need to pick up your results.


Step 6: pick up your results

       Return to the hospital in about a week to pick up the results of your test. The medical check is valid for three months from the date stamped on the back.
